Tim Paulissen
Conservative Leadership for League City’s Future
ISSUES I WANT TO ADDRESS
Traffic
Traffic has been a hot-button issue in
League City for many years. You’ve seen workshops, heard public
tirades, and witnessed various stop-gap measures; all aimed at
addressing what has become perhaps the biggest threat to our quality
of life. Well folks, it should be obvious by now that good
intentions and a million words are not going to ease the pain of
driving in this City. Money and dedication are the only keys to
finding real solutions to the problem. Facts:
• If a portion of the millions of dollars the City has spent on Big
League Dreams had been pledged to partner with Tx.Dot., the Hwy. 96
bypass would be nearing completion.
• If traffic studies were a key part of the plan review process
perhaps roads would have come before development.
• If traffic flow were given the highest priority we could have
maintained an efficient grid that discouraged developments that were
non-conforming.
True enough, hind-sight is 20-20. But the sad thing is that, in
spite of what we can see looking back, we continue to ignore the
lessons. The project known as the Township Development was
fast-tracked into reality without a traffic study. This project will
add over two hundred cars to Kansas Street in the Historic District.
That load will then pour onto a section of Main Street that is
already at capacity. This is but one example of how action is
speaking louder than words on the issue of traffic. Take a close
look at how other residential developments are impacting the grid.
Soon the adage “you can’t get there from here” will be a statement
of reality. If you truly want to solve the traffic problem then:
• Fund roads
• Make traffic studies prior to any development mandatory
• maximize grid compliance with each new development
As your representative on Council I will bring a loud voice to bear
in favor of real solutions to our traffic problems.
